Field Day, What a Fun Day!

So when I was in elementary school (at the same school that my son attends), I adored Field Day.  It was, by far, my favorite day of the year.  It was better than every party, every recess, every play...  It was the bestest of the best!  Little did I know that when you have kids and THEY have Field Day, it's like your old fun times 10.  He had so much fun and we had so much fun watching him have fun!  Could I use the word 'fun' one more time? 


When I went looking through the pictures that I'd taken (which you can see in the Flickr photostream on the main page of this blog), I fell in love with the idea of making a Field Day page, complete with those flags that they use to rope off the courses.  So I created some of those flags digitally. 

After I made them, I realized that you could use them to decorate all sorts of pages.  I made them in PSE and left them layered in the PSD version so that you can alter them as you like.  There is also a PNG format available for download if you think that I made perfection.  I mean I think that I did...  Know that if you decide to download the PNG version that PNG makes 4shared go all screwy.  It will look like it's crazy messed up, but it will download just perfect.

Samantha's Surgery...

So my 16 month old daughter had eye surgery on Monday.  We've had lots of visitors, including a few from out of town.  She's doing really well and we are very hopeful about her recovery.  Needless to say, though, I've had my mind on other things.  But, luckily enough, I have some freebies stocked up my sleeves!  So your freebie today is a blue barn wood paper.

St Patricks Day, albiet late...

So yesterday, I got in the spirit of St Patricks Day.  I sat down at the computer, opened Photoshop Elements & created a St Patty's palate.  After about an hour of failed attempts to make a paper, I finally settled on this paisley pattern that I'd been wanting to try.  While I'm saying that it's for St Patty's, that's only because it's green; however, if you wanted to recolor it, you could use it for just about anything.  My son's class theme this year 'the Buckeroos'.  So, I recolored it red to use for his class picture!  (First comment on this post gets a copy of the red buckeroo version!)

Busy Busy Busy

So it's been a busy week.  My 6 year old tested for the Gifted and Talented program at his school and he passed his first round of testing.  One down, one to go!  So we've been pretty busy around here this week.  Sorry for the absence, but....  that being said...  Our freebie for the day is the Fleur de Lis paper that I used in my 'Chocolate Pie Recipe' digiscrap.  Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

I've been receiving some really wonderful feedback on my work from many people on Flickr.  Just this morning, I received a comment on my Backyard Beaches layout from Angelika Brunke.  Based on her words of encouragement, our freebie for today is the PSE template for this layout.  For my version, I was testing out my new camera and its burst shot capabilities.  I shot these 3 pictures while my son was playing in his wading pool in the backyard.  In previous years, we'd made a trip to the beach during the summer; however, that year we were not able to do so because I was in school.  So we had to make due with what we had.  Thus, the word art 'backyard beaches' was born.  Hope that y'all enjoy the template!  Please let me see what you all are doing with my elements.  Creativity sparks further creativity, after all.  Anyway, here's the freebie!

Japan: Prayers are with you all

So this morning, I woke up and got right to my normal routine: Woke up my son, made his bed, got breakfast for the kids, woke up my daughter...  I started feeding my daughter her breakfast and was checking my email at the same time (multitasking mom at work).  I saw on Facebook that someone had mentioned prayers going out to everyone in Japan.  Hmm...  What's that about?  I got the kids dressed and ready to take my son to school.  After that, I turned on the news to see what was going on and I saw the devastation following the earthquakes and tsunami in Japan. 

I remember what Katrina was like just like it was yesterday.  We had just moved from Baton Rouge to Shreveport the previous weekend.  I remember my husband getting the call from his boss telling him that the state government had asked for as many emergency workers to volunteer to aid in the rescue/recovery efforts.  I remember that you couldn't get a call into the 225 area code hardly at all (Baton Rouge is the capital of Louisiana and is in the 225 area code; New Orleans' government and state Emergency Management was also relocated to the 225 area code - so they squeezed out all pedestrian telephone calls).  Because my husband's cell phone was a 225 area code, I hardly ever knew where he was or what was going on.  It was such a scary time to be down there as a volunteer: looting, officer involved shootings, exposure to who knows what. 

All in all, what made that situation better was the love of others.  Neighbors helped neighbors.  Volunteers helped strangers.  And it was all done out of love.  Where government was overloaded and unable to cope, the love of others prevailed.  In this spirit, I give you today's freebie.  I created this phrase as a PNG file so that it would have a clear background.  Those of you who are familiar with my blog know that 4shared's file preview is all kinds of confused by PNG files.  So when you go to 4shared to download this freebie, just ignore the preview picture.  It will download as it is pictured below (cross my heart):

Happy Mardi Gras!

Man did we have a great weekend.  It's Mardi Gras here in Louisiana.  This weekend the family and I were in a parade in town and it was a blast.  Last night I caught up on my Facebook friends' postings and what they'd been up to this weekend.  One of my friends posted the cutest picture of her daughter catching her first fish.  There were some distractors in the picture and I wanted to see if I could remove them (Can't back down from a challenge).  So, I downloaded it and got to work.  The picture turned out great & I am really proud of it (Check out my Flickr stream located on the right side of the blog's homepage if you are interested in seeing the before & after).  But being a digiscrapper, I couldn't stop at making the picture look great....  I had to scrap it too.  I practiced several new techniques that I'd learned recently, including creating patterns to make a pretty interesting paper.  Below are the scrap and today's freebies, which are the paper that I created & the label tape that I made to decorate the page.  Enjoy!

Digiscrap Catch-Up

So, I've been trying to catch up with my digiscraping on my son while also keeping up with digiscrapping the present.  I have this great picture of my son catching his first fish and I want to scrap it, but just haven't gotten around to it yet.  But....  I did make a great paper in preperation.  It's something right?  Well it's a free something for you!

On the Mend

I can finally say that I'm feeling better and am on the mend.  I took a few days off from posting so that I could get better.  But, because I took time off, I decided to give out TWO freebies today!  I know, right!  Two for the price of none!

Still Pretty Sick

So, it's Saturday and my husband did not have to work today.  Day of rest and recuperation does the body good.  That being said, I still wasn't feeling well, so I decided to issue today's freebie from something that I'd created previously for one of my cookbook scrapbook pages.

When I was working on my cookbook, I made a page for my great-grandmother's chocolate pie.  This recipe has been in my family for over 150 years and means a great deal to me (not to mention that it's an EXCELLENT pie). 

In making this scrap, I created the blue notebook paper for my recipe card.  I lifted the blue color from the color of my daughter's eyes.  So for freebie today...  my blue dingy notebook paper!  This freebie is a PNG which tends to reek havoc on 4shared, so simply ignore the picture of the freebie on their site.  It will download as it is pictured below:

Sick & Stuck at Home - What to do, but Create!

It would seem that the Wal-Mart cart has struck again!  I blame all illnesses on Wal-Mart carts.  I'm very glad that our kids haven't come down with this yuck yet.  That being said, I can't just lay in the bed and do nothing, so what to do...  Create! 
 So, I made a scrap today of my daughter with a picture that I took a few days ago:

Welcome Back, Rene

Welcome Back to Me!  I had started this blog in 2008 in hopes to help stimulate my creative energy.  However, life happened - I went to nursing school - I had another baby.....  And this sad blog withered and died.  I am here to announce a resurrection! 

With that in mind, please enjoy my first of what should be MANY digiscrap freebies!  I am creating these things for personal use only (please do not use my creativity for your commercial needs; please do not use my creativity as your own).  So, please download freely and make sure that you leave your comments about my work.  I would also love to see anything that you make with my items.  I would be glad to start a gallery to showcase work made with my designs, if the need presents itself.

All of that being said, may I present Freebie #1!  In 2004, when I first began digital scrapbooking, my son had just been born.  One of the first scraps that I did was of his 3D ultrasounds:

I posted this on Flickr in 2007 and to date it has had  nearly 2,000 views.  Flickr also has a tool that allows you to see how people reached your individual pictures.  Almost every view that I've had of this has been someone searching Google or Yahoo trying to find ideas of how to digiscrap ultrasound photos.  Based on that, I decided to try and recreate a template for others to use which mimics this original digiscrap.  Of course, it could be used for whatever you would like.  I created it with PSE9 & it is a layered PSD.
